The Story of Cape Cod Fire Logs.

In the mid 2000s, a builder of homes on Cape Cod was seeking a productive way to dispose of wood discarded from construction projects. Every year, tons of clean, unused wood were being hauled to overflowing landfills across America, with substantial fees charged for disposal. The situation was both financially and environmentally costly.

Searching for a solution that would make a positive environmental impact, the builder developed a unique system to collect the unused wood from construction sites and use it as a raw material to manufacture a new type of premium firelog composed of 100% recycled compressed wood products.

Subsequent testing by an independent fire laboratory confirmed that the new firelog burned hotter and longer than cordwood while emitting substantially less carbon monoxide and particulate matter, and provided a far more natural wood-burning experience than the leading manufactured firelogs.

In 2009, West Falmouth Energy, Inc. was established to introduce Cape Cod Fire Logs to consumers seeking the convenience of a premium firelog that offers a more ecofriendly and natural fire experience. The company launched Cape Cod Mini-Logs in the summer of 2009 and will introduce full-size Cape Cod Fire Logs in the spring of 2010.

By 2012, WFE expects to be recycling about 12,000 tons of wood annually that would have otherwise ended up in landfills.
